Tithing, Is It A Way to Make Ends Meet?

Normally, I would not blog about my religious beliefs.  It’s not that I don’t have any, it’s just that I want to try to make my blog and website as “generic” as possible.  But today I feel moved to share our recent experience with a new commitment to tithing.

We have not been the best tithers over the years.  Even though we were able to send our children to catholic school, it was seen as an expense, not as a gift.  Recently, when our yearly stewardship renewal packets went out, my husband and I sat down and had a very long and serious discussion about earnestly beginning to tithe.  God has been very good to us.  Since we have had guardianship of our grandsons, I no longer work outside the home.  Yet we still have enough.  We felt strongly that this was because of God, and it was time we began giving him the best, first.  So, we figured what was due to God each pay period, and began writing that check first.  We have been doing this since November.  However, as the new year approached, my husband began to worry about where the money was going to come from.  He is a commissioned salesman.  And the economy is in bad shape, right?  But guess what?  He is busier than he has been in years.  And, our house payment went down, and we got some money back from escrow, and we got a great tax return, and this month when we thought we would be short on the house payment, he got paid for vacation time he wasn’t able to use last year, and the list goes on and on!  God is truly a great provider!  So, if you have been struggling with the decision to really give tithing a try, I say yes.  You will find that the blessings will come pouring down!
